Welcome to FS2!

My name is Mrs Millard, and I am your class teacher. With Mrs Rooney supporting your learning too, our aim is to ensure that in FS2 you come to school everyday excited, happy, and ready to explore and learn. 

Our learning is based on the foundations of the Early Years Curriculum, incorporating directed teaching, teacher-led group activities and independent exploration to help each child to grow and develop. 

We hope that you enjoy your time in FS2, making friends and creating lots of memories. 

Autumn Term 1

Reading and Phonics

Children in FS2 are supported with their early reading through the use of the 'Little Wandle' phonics scheme.  We are currently beginning to explore Phase 2 sounds and apply this knowledge to begin to segment and blend sounds in words. During this first half-term, children will begin to learn the tricky words 'is', 'I' and 'the' and recognise these words within their reading. 

 

Writing

By the end of FS2, all children in FS2 should be able to: 

• Write recognisable letters, most of which are correctly formed.

• Spell words by identifying sounds in them and representing the sounds with a letter or letters.

• Write simple phrases and sentences that can be read by others.

Maths

By the end of FS2, children should be able to:

Number

• Children should have a deep understanding of numbers up to 10, including the composition of each number.

• Being able to subitise; recognising quantities without counting up to 5.

• Be able to automatically recall without reference to rhymes, counting or other aids.

• Understand number bonds up to 5, including subtraction facts and some number bonds to 10, including double facts.

Numerical Patterns

• Be able to verbally count beyond 20, recognising the pattern of the counting system.

• Be able to compare quantities of up to 10 in different contexts, recognising when one quantity is greater than, less than, or the same as the other quantity.

• Be able to explore and represent patterns within numbers up to 10, including evens and odds, double facts and how quantities can be distributed equally.

 

 

Religious Education Autumn 1

Creation and Covenant 

Children will learn about the following content during their RE lessons this half-term:

● The Sign of the Cross 

● Genesis 1

● Laudato Si

● We care for creation

● We care for each other

All other areas of learning are planned for and supported through continuous provision.

Homework

Children should read every night. 

Monday - Friday - Phonics book 

Friday - Sunday - Reading for pleasure  

Arithmetic and phonics homework is given out on a Monday and is expected to be returned by the following Thursday.

 

Typical Timetable 

Morning: Core curriculum time - Maths, Writing and Phonics with continuous provision to support whole class and group teaching.

Afternoon: Foundation Subjects and Reading Groups

Monday - RE

Tuesday -  Understanding the World / Exploring Arts and Design

Wednesday - RE/ RSE

Thursday - Music

Friday - PE
