Policy for requesting Childcare

St Saviour’s Catholic Primary and Nursery School

Policy for requesting childcare provision during the Covid 19 Crisis

Rationale

In terms of offering childcare places to parents/carers/social workers who request them, we will be guided by the overarching principles as given in Government guidance:

‘If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.’

‘Many families with a parent or carer working in critical sectors will be able to ensure their child is kept at home……..and the most recent scientific advice on how to further limit the spread of COVID-19 is clear. If children can stay safely at home, they must, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.

Reasons to request childcare

The offer of childcare places will be considered for three key categories:

  • Vulnerable children who have social care involvement.
  • Children with an Education Healthcare Plan
  • Children were one or both parents are key workers

Any request must be made with a minimum of 48hrs notice either by telephone or email:

clerical@stsaviours.cheshire.sch.uk 0151 3382440

Any request made will be considered on an individual basis.

Offer protocol

Bearing in mind the overarching principles stated above there will be an expectation that:

  • If children can stay safely at home, they must.
  • Social Care will share the role of monitoring children who are vulnerable.
  • Keyworker parents will have liaised with their employers to enable them to work contrasting shift patterns, which may differ from their normal pattern, so that there is a parent at home at any one time to provide childcare. Evidence of this may be required.

Conclusion

The Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher is responsible for making the ultimate decision and will be guided by the overarching principle that if children can stay safely at home, they must.

The Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher may choose to offer childcare to any family they deem may require respite.
