School Council
St Saviour's School Council
St Saviour's School Council meets once a week with Mrs Kitchen. We gather opinions from our classes about what they like about our school and suggestions for changes to make it even better, then feed these back to Mrs Kitchen or the appropriate adults in school.
School Councillors
There are ten School Councillors this year. These children consist of 2 from each year group 2-6 and were elected by their classmates after preparing and presenting a speech about why they deserved the role. Councillors are responsible for making sure that decisions agreed at our meetings are carried out.
School Council Objectives & Remit
- To act as role models and lead by example for other children in our class and school, ensuring we are well-behaved and polite.
- To act as role models for St Saviour’s in our local community.
- To ensure we look well presented in our uniform and wear our school council with pride.
- To act as class representative, bringing forward ideas and opinions on how we can make St Saviour’s an even better place.
- To bring back information from school council meetings to share with classmates on changes or projects or results from school questionnaires etc.
- To show visitors around the school when asked and to be welcoming to others, especially new children joining our school.
- To work as a team and present whole school assemblies on different themes such as recycling or bullying.
- To support and lead school projects when needed.
- To speak up and share our own ideas and thoughts during school council meetings.
Remembrance Day
The school council led an assembly on Remembrance day. The children spoke confidently to the whole school. The children also met before school, after school and during their break and lunch times to sell poppies to the other children and staff members.
School Council's trip to Parliament!
The school councillors went to London to visit the houses of Parliament. They had a guided tour around the houses of Parliament, got to look inside the House of Lords and watched a debate in the House of Commons. Later in the day, they also met with our local MP, Justin Madders. They represented our school brilliantly! We were also able to do some sightseeing.
Meeting with the catering team
School council met with the catering team at school. The children asked their classes for opinions and fed this back to the school council and then to Mrs Mitchell. This resulted in Mac and Cheese being added to the menu on a trial basis and a salad bar being offered each day.
